For long now Ford, Ram, and Chevrolet have been clashing with each other in various segments related to utility vehicles and always it is amongst these three that one pickup is declared the best through the choices a consumer makes while buying. In this article we’ll be making a detailed comparison between 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2018 Ford F-150 to determine which one is actually the best of the lot.

Engine and Mechanics
All these trucks have multiple engines and mechanics that can be chosen depending on what you need as a buyer and we’ll be comparing all of them for you.
There is only just a bit of difference between powertrains of Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500. Each truck has a V8 as a top engine, with Ram’s engine being a 5.7L Hemi-V8 with 395 pony powers and 410 lb-ft of Torque while Silverado again uses a 6.2L V8 producing 420 HPand 460 lb-ft of torque.
Also, both of these V8 engines boast one fuel-saving technology, Chevy’s 6.2L engine comes with Chevy’s latest cylinder deactivation system that can deactivate any or all cylinders out of the 8 present while Ram’s V8 offers 48 Volt mild-hybrid system that can help in fuel economy as well as provide up to 130 lb-ft of torque. Ram’s fuel economy has increased by 2 mpg in cities to 17 mpg and 19 mpg for two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive respectively, while it has 1 mpg for highway fuel economy to 23 mpg and 22 mpg.
Silverado’s 6.2L V8 doesn’t do much improvement as only 1 mpg increased for the city while the fuel economy actually decreased for highways. Although, the new and fancy 5.3L engine with fancy deactivation system does have a better fuel economy than the simpler versions.
Coming to the Ford F-150, the F-150 still offers 5.0L V8 but its big-time haulier is 3.5L Twin-Turbocharged V6, this engine makes 375 hp and the top of the list 470 lb-ft of torque, plus that’s not all because the newest F-150 Raptor has a higher output of the same engine with a whopping 450 pony powers and 510 lb-ft of torque.
If we look at the lower level entry engines of all three companies, one thing comes out common and that is the use of V6. All three companies have different engines but all of them use V6 to power entry-level engines. In the gasoline engines, the Ram 3.6L comes with 305 hpand t torque at 269 lb-ft with an additional 90 lb-ft of torque courtesy to its 48 volt hybrid system, that’s not all, it also has the second-highest fuel economy on the list with 20 mpg in city, 25 mpg on highway and 22 combined.
Second is Ford F-150 with its 3.3L V6 producing 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Another engine that is offered is 2.7L Turbocharged V6 that works at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque and if properly equipped this one can produce an amazing 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on highway and 22 combined.
Finally, if we look at Chevy, it has 2 entry-level engines to offer now, the first one is 4.3L V6 featuring the same as before 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque equipped with cylinder deactivation system which is able to shut 2 out of the total 6 engines. The second and the better performing one is a 2.7L turbocharged four-cylinder engine which produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. V6 fuel economy isn’t known yet and the four-cylinder version runs of 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
If you want a middle engine lineup, then Ford and Chevy offer that as well. Ford uses 5.0L V8making 395 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque while the Silverado uses 5.3L V8 and produces 355 Hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the trim level you also have the choice to select the cylinder deactivation system, refer the trim chart for the same.
Coming to Diesel engines, for the first time all three of these full-sized pickups will be offered in diesel engines. Chevy comes with a 3.0L inline- six diesel with no other specs revealed, Ford uses Powerstroke 3.0L that produces 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque and as far as Ram is concerned they have just announced that Eco-Diesel V6 will return with no more specs so expect it to come for near about the current 240 hp, 420 lb-ft of torque and a fuel economy of 27 mpg on highway, 20 in town and 23 combined.
Lastly, if we talk about gears, Ram offers 8-speed automatics with different sets for V8 and V6, while Chevy offers 10-speed automatics for 6.2L V8 and Diesel engine, 8-speed automatics for the 5.3L engine with advanced cylinder deactivation and 6-speed automatics for 5.3L V8 with older style cylinder deactivation. Like the Chevy, Ford also uses 10-speed automatics and even transmission is nearly the same courtesy to the ongoing partnership on that front between Ford and GM.
Interiors
All three trucks seem to have spacious and well-managed interiors. For some time Ford F-150seemed to be the clear cut winner being the newest at the time, but now Ram and Chevy have played catch-up and what seems to be in the store for 2019 editions is no less than complete evolution from previous models. The design has become cleaner, larger controls mean operability with gloves as well and increased small pockets and bins means increased storage for trash as well as small things.
Coming to infotainment, Ram stands out and takes the cake with a truly massive centre console, the upper trims with its 12-inch screen can give the best luxury cars a run for their money. Although not that comprehensive, the consoles in Ford and Chevy come with latest iterations of Ford Sync and Chevy MyLink respectively while all three have USB ports for charging and connecting spread out throughout the interiors.
Cargo Options
Ram still has the grip in this sphere with Rambox continuing in this model as well, though it faces stiff competition from Chevrolet.
As far as Ram is concerned, it works the same with fitting storage containers insides of the bed and lockable lids on the top of the bedsides. On the other hand, Silverado is available with new in-bed cargo boxes. These boxes sit above the wheel arches and seem to take up the same space as RamBox but they are removable and don’t need a special bed. As far as Ford is concerned, the F-150 doesn’t come with any lockable storage space.
Silverado seems to be the first in capacity with the new truck bed 6.75 inches wider than previous and thanks to taller fenders, it is deeper too. Though it is not like Ford and Ram lag behind, it is just a small difference between the three which will be clear once all the specifications come.
Off-Roading versions
Chevrolet has come out with a new and a tougher off-road variant to compete with the Ram Rebel, it’s called the Chevrolet Trailboss. Going beyond the Z71 off-road package and is equipped with locking rear differential, skid plates, Rancho shocks, a two-inch lift, and off-road tires. Off-course the Trailboss also looks more aggressive with that black front fiasco.
The Ram Rebel 1500 continues into 2019, though not many changes have been made, only a 1-inch suspension lift seems to be the only big change made, Equipped with locking rear differential, skid plates and off-road tires similarly to Chevy, the Rebel also gets equipped with hill-descent control and upgraded shocks. The Rebel can come with air suspensions as well and will continue to have the unique black grille and iconic rebel badging.
The truth of the matter is whatever we just discussed above comes to waste against this in the off-road category because Ford F-150 raptor still remains the lord of full-size offroadtrucks. Raptor is equipped with a high-performance version of 3.5L Eco-Boost V6 which is good enough for 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the extra power, Raptor is also equipped with beefy tires and wheels, Fox shocks, wide fenders to make it the best in this class..............................................
